Lee John insists Port Talbot will travel to Aberystwyth in positive mood when they return to Welsh Premier League action on Friday (7.30).
The Steelmen have had more than a week to reflect on a disappointing home defeat to Connah’s Quay that hit their European hopes.
But victory in two days’ time would see Scott Young’s men close the gap on the seventh place Seasiders, with plenty of games still to come.
Port Talbot have already won at Park Avenue this term, coming from behind to seal a late victory in December as they completed a league double over Aberystwyth before the mid-season split.
“Aberystwyth are a good side, they’ve got a local lad I know well called Mark Jones who’s on fire, Chris Venables is on fire and they’ve signed some old lads from Llanelli like Stuart Jones and Antonio Corbisiero,” said John.
“They’re good players, they know the league inside out and they know our lads a lot.
“But we’ve got a good record up there – it’s been a happy hunting ground for us. We’ve done the double over them already this year, so we’ve got to be positive.”
Port Talbot looked to have done enough to beat the Nomads a week last Saturday until two late goals turned the game on its head.
“It was disappointing, a disappointing performance all round,” added John.
“With five minutes to go, having not played very well as a team, I think you’ve got to see the game out then which we didn’t.
“Aberystwyth is a massive game, we need to win that now for obvious reasons because they’re in seventh.
“We can’t look too far forwards, we’ve got Abersytwyth, we’ll try to win that game and see where we are after that.
“We’ve got to keep going.”
