Does Rhyl Super Second Half Show Secure Top 6 Spot?

Unless Aberystwyth succeed to appeal their 3 point deduction – Rhyl will be in the Top 6 for the second phase of the season following their second half super show at a windswept Corbett Sports Stadium.

Port Talbot took advantage of the strong first half wind when Lewis Harling’s 11th minute effort put them ahead. However two goals within the space of two minutes at the start of the second half by Liam Benson (48) and Steve Lewis (49) turned things in Rhyl’s favour.

David Forbes made it three on the hour mark and even Ashley Evans’s 20 yard effort (68) only served to spur the home side on to secure a comprehensive victory. Forbes bagged his brace (77) before Mark Cadwallader registered the Lilywhites’ 5th second half goal and a significant victory for Greg Strong’s team.

It is hoped that Aberystwyth’s appeal will be heard within a week but neither Aber nor Rhyl will play any further Corbett Sport WPL matches until the matter is resolved.

Oni bai y gwnaiff Aberystwyth lwyddo wrth apelio’n erbyn y penderfyniad i dynnu triphwynt oddi arnyn nhw am chwarae Peter Hoy pan oedd dan waharddiad – bydd Y Rhyl yn chwarae yn y chwech uchaf yn ail ran y tymor y perfformaid ail hanner arbennig hwn.

Gyda’r gwynt cryf wrth eu cefnau – Port Talbot aeth ar y blaen wedi 11 munud diolch i ymdrech Lewis Harling o 25 llath. Serch hynny dechreuodd Y Rhyl yr ail hanner ar dn – a rhwydodd Liam Benson (48) a Steve Lewis (49) i droi’r ornest ar ei phen. Pan sgoriodd David Forbes drydedd ei dîm o’r ail hanner wedi awr o chwarae ‘roedd y fuddugoliaeth yn ymddangos yn ddiogel i fechgyn Greg Strong. Felly y bu hi hefyd er i Ashley Evans rwydo o 20 llath i Bort Talbot wedi 68 munud gan i Forbes hawlio’i ail (77) a Mark Cadwallader ei gwneud hi’n bump funud yn ddiweddarach.

Y gobaith yw y bydd Apêl Aberystwyth yn cael ei glywed o fewn wythnos ond ni fydd Aber na’r Rhyl yn chwarae unrhyw gemau pellach yn UGC-Corbett Sports tan i’r broses apêl gael ei chwblhau.
