Jeff White could be out for 2 months
Newtown have been dealt another blow with striker Jeff White being ruled out an injury.
Club physio Wayne Peter released this statement today; "I have received disappointing news today that Jeff will be out of contention for at least 8 weeks. He picked up a thigh strain during the pre season but with rest and treatment we have made little progress and decided Jeff would visit a specialist and receive an MRI."
Results today have shown he suffered a substantial tear to one of his thigh muscles. Scans indicate scar tissue is forming but it will be at least two months until we are in a position where it is strong enough to play . Doing so within that time, like he has been risks the chances of major trauma and then definite surgical intervention. With this in mind Jeff will now be pulled out and undertake intensive rehab closer to home with the view to returning to play as soon as possible."
'I had a conversation with Jeff this afternoon and nobody is more devastated than him, he is a great lad and fitted in brilliantly in both the dressing room and with the lads. We are still waiting results on Mike Platts broken thumb after his surgery was cancelled today and rescheduled to friday, Platty is another big absence, both on the pitch and to the lads, but the first key to a good rehab is positivity, so we all need to stay up beat, galvanise as a group , a club and keep working hard.'
Bernie McNally was obviously disappointed to lose his new man, but hopes all Newtown's bad luck is now out of the way.
It's one of those things that happens in football. The deadline has now passed, and it's a big loss there is no denying that
"It's one of those things that happens in football. The deadline has now passed, and it's a big loss there is no denying that."
McNally added, 'This is football and it doesn't always go smoothly, but hopefully other players can step up.'
McNally is now a striker light but still has Luke Boundford, James O'Neill and Matthew Hearsey to choose from and Bernie hopes Hearsey can step in from midfield. 'Matts has been a good player for us, and he is a left sided player but hopefully he can take his chance up front, as he has played there before.'
