Welsh Premier League referee Bryn Markham-Jones has received two International appointments to continue an excellent summer of prestigious matches for Welsh officials.
The referee, who hails from Wrexham but now resides in Swansea, has been allocated a match in the Under 21 Championship sometime between 5th and 10th of September. At the moment the match involved is classified as Confidential, but accompanying him on the trip will by Assistant Referees John Bryn Roberts of Llanllynfi and Swansea’s Teifion Cook with Huw Jones (Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant) as 4th Official.
Later in the month, Bryn then goes to Russia to referee in a mini tournament for Under 17s between Russia, Iceland, Slovakia and Azerbaijan. As is usual on UEFA mini tournaments only one Assistant Referee travels with the Referee and Bontnewydd’s Gareth Wyn Jones will join him on the trip.
The most prestigious appointment of the summer to date though, goes to Lee Evans whom UEFA have selected to referee the Europa League play off second leg match between Standard Liege (Belgium) and Minsk of Belarus. Supporting Lee will be Assistants J B Roberts and Eddie King with Markham-Jones as 4th Official.
Referees’ Manager Rodger Gifford, who himself, has been appointed by FIFA as their Referee Observer for the World Cup Qualifying match in September between Latvia and Lithunia, commented;
"The regularity of games coming in for UEFA competition matches in recent weeks for our top referees reflects highly favourably on the work being done both at Welsh Premier and Grassroots level through the development schemes we have in place which have the full support of UEFA.
"This surely must act as an incentive not only to those currently active on our lists but also to any prospective referees when International appointments can be attained through progressing via the system we have here in Wales.
"Long may the appointments keep coming in as the reports from UEFA’s independent Referee Observers received so far this year have been highly complimentary," the Referees Chief concluded.
