ANDY PARKINSON is aiming to prove the doubters wrong again and keep Prestatyn’s European hopes alive with a positive result in Croatia.
The striker told the Daily Post that the part-time Seasiders can repeat their heroics in Latvia last week when they face HNK Rijeka in the first leg of their Europa League second-round qualifying tie.(Thursday KO 8pm)
But he admits it is going to be a much tougher task against the full-time Croatian outfit who currently lie third in their domestic
league and are expected to be cheered on by a crowd of up to 10,000.
He said: “We want to prove people wrong again. We went into the last tie and everyone was putting us down saying we were going to get battered which wasn’t the case.
“We had belief in ourselves especially after the first leg. We knew we could go out to Latvia and get a result and we did. We proved we could win in Europe.
“ We know it’s going to be a more difficult test because of the opposition we’re playing but if we approach it with the same mentality it gives us a chance.”
Parkinson believes a defeat at the hands of Rijeka tonight would not necessarily be a disaster for Prestatyn as long as they don’t have a mountain to climb in the return leg at Rhyl next week.
“We need to make sure we’re still in the tie in the second leg, make sure we approach it in the right manner,” he said. “Do a professional job as best we can.
“Nobody wants to get beat but if we were to suffer defeat then it may be by the odd goal or two. We don’t want to suffer a heavy loss and put ourselves out of the tie.”
Mae Andy Parkinson yn gobeithio y bydd Prestatyn yn sicrhau canlyniad ffafriol yn erbyn HNK Rijeka yng nghymal cyntaf ail rownd ragbrofol Cynghrair Europa. (Iau 8pm)
Dywedodd yr ymosodwr profiadol wrth y Daily Post: 'Rydym eisiau profi pobl yn anghywir unwaith eto. Mae hi'n mynd i fod yn anodd wrth gwrs ond ein gobaith yw gwneud yn siwr nad oes gennym ormod o fynydd i'w ddringo yn yr ail gymal yn Y Rhyl'.
Disgwylir torf o 10,000 ar gyfer yr ornest yng Nghroatia.
