Port Talbot Town are just two games away from becoming the second team in South Wales - after Swansea City - to qualify for European football next season.
The Steelmen will play Carmarthen Town (2.00 Saturday 11 May) at the GenQuip stadium, Port Talbot, in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League play-off semi-final.
The winners will then play either Bangor City or Bala Town the following weekend to determine who will qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
European football would be considered a significant achievement for a club of Port Talbot Town’s stature and would aid the club in its long-term strategy of building its profile within the local community.
We would greatly appreciate the support of media outlets in helping us generate interest and make our play-off semi-final a special occasion.
To help capture the imagination and support of the public, we have reduced admission for Saturday’s semi-final:
All under-16s will be FREE, whilst adults will be charged just £5.00 (spectators can pay at gate on the day).
I assure you that we’ll be doing our utmost in terms of preparation for Saturday’s game but it would be a massive boost to the entire squad if they have a good crowd encouraging them from the stands. We’re in this together as far as I’m concerned
Manager Scott Young has urged supporters to turn out and get behind his side at the GenQuip stadium.
"I assure you that we’ll be doing our utmost in terms of preparation for Saturday’s game but it would be a massive boost to the entire squad if they have a good crowd encouraging them from the stands. We’re in this together as far as I’m concerned."
Top-scorer David Brooks will be key to Port Talbot Town’s play-off hopes and is looking to add to his 15-goal tally.
"I really believe we can get to into Europe. I think that’s what we need to be targeting going into the play-offs and I’ll be disappointed if we don’t make it,” he said. “It’s been a real team effort to get to where we are and the squad and the coaching staff have just been amazing."
