Chris Jones celebrates his winner
The New Saints have gone joint-top of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League with an excellent 1-0 win in an enthralling evening game in Bangor.
The Saints took a 13th minute lead at the Bookpeople Stadium as Chris Jones latched on to a long clearance to score and that proved decisive. Saints keeper Paul Harrison cleared from just outside his penalty box and Greg Draper got the slightest of header's to flick towards Jones, who got away from Chris Roberts with one touch and his drilled shot into the bottom left corner beat Lee Idzi by the smallest margin.
Bangor's best chance of the half was created by their top-scorer Chris Simm, but his shot from distance was just touched over the bar by Harrison in the Saints goal.
Bangor dominated for a spell early in the second-half and a Les Davies header was cleared off the line by Alex Darlington, despite strong claims from the Citizens that the ball had crossed, but assistant referee Eddie King didn't agree.
As time went on, Bangor kept pushing for an equaliser, but the Saints defence remained strong. There was another talking point six minutes into injury-time when the Citizens did manage to put the ball into the back of the net through Chris Roberts, but assistant referee King was spot-on to identify at least two offsice attackers and it was ruled out.
