The club recently announced a partnership, through their community arm Llandudno Football in the Community (FITC), with Llandudno Hockey Club. The partnership will see closer working between both organisations, and was officially launched at an event yesterday evening at the Giant Hospitality Stadium.
Llandudno FITC’s community coaches are working with Hockey Wales to gain qualifications that will allow them to deliver hockey training sessions in their partner schools, in addition to the football sessions they currently deliver. Eventually the partnership aim to replicate the success that Llandudno FITC have had in developing a football-based community hub with an equivalent for the Hockey Club.
James Parry, Schools & Community Co-ordinator at Llandudno FITC, explains how the partnership came about: “Two of my close friends, who are Captain & Vice Captain of the Men's 1st team at the Hockey club, contacted me as they were worried their club would fold due to a lack of players.
“We started working together on their website and social media presence to give them a unique image and we created the hashtag #ForwardTogether which epitomises their current predicament and also their need to push on as a club and move forward, together.
“They have since seen an upturn in their fortunes, receiving more and more enquiries regarding their youth teams and their senior teams where they were able to field two full squads, the women's side away to Bangor and the men's side at home two weekends ago."
Ashley Black, Vice Captain of the Men's 1st Team at the Hockey Club, agreed that the partnership was going to be beneficial:
"Llandudno FC has grown massively over the last few years so for us this is a major deal as we are becoming more and more know across the town and surrounding areas.
"We know that hockey isn't the most popular sport in our area at the moment, but my advice for other clubs would be to reach out to other sporting clubs in their area or community centres."
