Bangor City FC have announced the signing of former Torino FC centre back Sergio Uyi.

The 23-year old, who holds dual Nigerian-Italian nationality, has trained with the Citizens over the last fortnight and played the full 90 minutes of the mid-season friendly against Liverpool Under-23’s on 4 January.

The powerful 6’4” tall centre back began his career with Italian Serie-A club Torino FC 1906. Uyi played in the youth ranks at Torino where he starred in the Campionato Primavera (Under-19) side until his release by “Il Toro“ in 2013.

Uyi trialled with Czech giants Slavia Prague before eventually signing with Lithuanian league club DFK Dainava. A move to Finnish second-tier side Atlantis FC (Helsinki) in 2015 was followed by a spell with German club SVV Reutlingen 1905. While in Germany, Uyi was called up to the Nigeria Under-23 squad for a friendly against Brazil in March 2016. He then joined AE Pezlana Kastoniou in Greece before his switch to the UK.

International clearance has been granted and Sergio will be available for Saturday's Dafabet WPL match at Airbus UK Broughton (5:15pm Kick Off) alongside fellow January transfer window recruits Paul Connolly and Jack Metcalf.
