The New Saints drew one all with Aberystwyth Town thanks to a late goal from substitute Sam Finley at Park Avenue.

The Saints went behind in the 30th minute after a Mark Jones goal but salvaged a point with only ten minutes remaining thanks to a deflected Finley goal.

With only five minutes gone, Chris Marriott powered an effort from outside that box that whistled just wide of the post which had Mike Lewis helpless.

In what was an even opening to the game, Ryan Fraughan made a chance out of nothing, after his great run from ended up with the winger shooting and Lewis desperately diving to his right to save the low drive and keep the game goalless.

Soon after, Alex Darlington found room on the edge of the box but his left footed strike went over the bar as Craig Harrison’s side started to take control of the match.

However, with half an hour played, the home side broke the deadlock. Paul Harrison did well to keep out a Cledan Davies’ dangerous free kick but Jones was the first to react and managed to tap in from close range after the ball had fell kindly to him in the box.

With only a minute left to play in the first half, The Saints won a free kick on the edge of the box and despite Fraughan’s brilliant effort, the winger was denied by an excellent save from Lewis.

The Saints began the second half brightly with Fraughan, Aeron Edwards and Chris Seargeant all having shots that had Aberystwyth worried.

With an hour played, Finley and Mike Wilde were brought on in search of an equaliser and within moments it nearly came thanks to Adrian Cieslewicz. The Polish winger skipped past a couple of challenges before forcing Lewis into another good save.

With only ten minutes left to play Finley equalised for The Saints. The midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the box before curling his shot into the bottom corner after the ball had taken a slight deflection.

TNS searched for a winning goal and in stoppage time, it nearly came. Darlington’s excellent half volley nearly beat the impressive Lewis but the Aber goalkeeper was able to get his body behind the ball and keep it out.
