Chris Hughes' Newtown side fought back from 2-0 down today at Latham Park to take a point off high rollers Airbus. Tom Field and Ian Kearney had given Airbus a 2-0 lead inside the half hour, but a Craig Williams free kick just before the break, and an Andy Jones header gave the Robins a well deserved point.
Hughes named an unchanged side for the game as Airbus began on the front foot showing the quality that they possess. Field had a free kick tipped onto the bar by Chris Mullock and Sam Hart nodded over.
Andy Jones did have a half chance for Newtown before the hosts lost possession in the centre of the field and Field punished them with a low drive past Mullock.
Newtown hit straight back as Sean Evans saw a shot go narrowly wide and Williams had a shot well saved. But again on 30 minutes it was the Airbus quality that shone through.

Another Field free kick struck the bar and after a goalmouth scramble following the strike, Ian Kearney scored with his knee to give the wingmakers a comfortable lead.
But as Airbus thought they had that cushion going into the break, specialist dead ball man Craig Williams snuck a free kick past James Coates at the front post to get the Robins back in the game.
And after the break he nearly scored with a dead ball, this time going narrowly wide. The Robins now had their tails up as Max Penk sliced wide and Jones saw his shot deflected past the post.
A scramble in the Airbus area showed the pressure that Newtown were having as the visitors were suffering some slight turbulence.
And with 20 minutes to go they paid the price as Matt Hearsey saw his shot cannon off the post and Evans whipped the ball back in, Luke Boundford nodded into the box and skipper Jones grabbed a leveller as the hosts were back in the game.
Soon after Williams was at it again, as his free kick brushed the upright as Newtown looked like the more likely side to get the result.
Jeff White was introduced from the bench and he had two shots blocked as he went looking for a winner, but the Robins had to settle for a point.
