Mark Jones scored the winner
A jubilant Park Avenue saw Aber Town notch a massive win tonight at home to Prestatyn, and climb back to third in the Welsh Prem, thanks to Mark Jones’ deflected 79th minute goal.
For The Black and Greens Antonio Corbisiero and Wyn Thomas replaced the inured Rhydian Davies and Bari Morgan, while Mike Lewis returned between the sticks, and in a very tense first half there were chances aplenty for both sides. Sion James shot just over from distance, and Mark Jones just failed to connect with a Geoff Kellaway cross, then Stuart Jones’ header from a corner was pummelled away by Dave Roberts in the visitors goal. Prestatyn’s Lee Hunt then beat the offside trap and took the ball around Lewis in the goal, only for Cledan Davies to make a crucial clearance off the line. Jones lobbed the centre back and then fired just wide, headed Craig Williams' cross wide, and Cledan Davies fired narrowly wide again. Neil Gibson at the other end had a shot blocked by Lewis, who then made another cruicial block with his foot, and an exciting half somehow ended goalless.
The chances kept coming in the second half. Aber’s Chris Venables had a piledriver saved by Roberts, and then played a lovely through ball to Kellaway, who set up the excellent Craig Williams to curl a shot inches wide. Aber had another let off just past the hour when Andy Parkinsons’s cushioned headed goal from a Jack Lewis cross was adjudged to be offside, but the home side’s classy midfield display continued to create chances. Venables headed inches over from another Williams cross, while Lee Hunt swivelled and fired over for the visitors, but then with eleven minutes to go Venables won a header in the area and Jones was on hand to fire home via a deflection for a crucial winner. The Dias stand was singing as Aber held on, with Jack Lewis firing wide for Pretstayn, and then a crucial late challenge from the superb Sion James summing up an excellent defensive performance from the Black and Greens.
