The New Saints held on to an important win against Bala Town, with Mike Wilde scoring the winner for the home side.

The Oswestry side, who were unchanged from their emphatic win against Gap Connah’s Quay were the quickest out of the blocks and had all the ball before Wilde broke the deadlock. The big striker coolly converted from 12 yards after Sam Finley found him with a neat assist.

Moments later, the referee decided to award a penalty for Bala after Steffan Edwards was fouled. Lee Hunt stepped up and Paul Harrison superbly denied him after diving to his left.

With the rain pouring down, The Saints went into the break winning 1-0 after an uneventful 45 minutes. However, Bala came out fighting in the second half and took the game to their illustrious opponents. Kenny Lunt and Marc Connolly both had chances, the latter coming close with a wicked free kick.

Despite the pressure that Bala were applying, Chris Jones was causing them plenty of problems on the break and the Welshman was unlucky not to be on the score sheet after a terrific display. A number of brilliant runs gave his teammates some rest bite as the reigning champions held on to a vital three points.
