MARK AIZLEWOOD’S 10-man Carmarthen Town produced a heroic performance to deny Prestatyn Town the chance to go back to the top of the Welsh Premier as they fought out a 2-2 stalemate at Richmond Park.
Despite 39-year-old striker Julian Alsop being shown a straight red card after just five minutes by referee Lee Evans for a clumsy high lunge on Gareth Wilson, the Old Gold remarkably led 2-1 well into added time.
And it was only Mike Parker’s last-gasp penalty that rescued a point for the Seasiders.
Aizlewood’s men had shown great character to defy the odds and forge a lead as Prestatyn paid the penalty with Liam Thomas completing a spot-kick double.
The lively front man picked himself up after being brought down by Jon Hill-Dunt to convert an 11th-minute spot-kick and put Carmarthen on course for a shock win following a handball in the box by Jason Price in the 70th minute.
Ross Stephens had brought the visitors level in between with a rasping finish. And in the fourth minute of added time Liam McCreesh fouled Andy Parkinson in the area for Parker to coolly score from the spot and spare Prestatyn blushes.
