Irving header gives Bala welcome win

JOHN IRVING'S stoppage time header gave Bala their first win of the Welsh Premier League season.

Ex-Everton reserve captain and England under-16 international Irving's first goal of the campaign was just what the doctor ordered for Colin Caton's side.

Prestatyn were aiming to stretch their unbeaten run against the Lakesiders to six games and went close to taking the lead when Lee Hunt's thunderous volley from 25 yards came back off the bar.

However, the hosts edged ahead on 30 minutes when a poor kick out from Seasiders keeper Jon Hill-Dunt led to Josh Macauley receiving the ball about 40 yards out.

Steve Morrison's dummy run allowed Macauley to work the ball on to his left foot and drive home from just outside the box. The visitors levelled after 70 minutes when Prestatyn striker Steve Rogers was adjudged to have had his shirt pulled in the box following a Ross Stephens free-kick and Hunt blasted in the resulting penalty for his eighth goal in as many matches.

And it was so nearly 2-1 to the visitors when Leon Bimpson produced a good save from a Stephens free-kick and Michael Parker hit the post from the rebound. But in the 93rd minute Jack Lewis fouled Paul Ennis wide on the right and from the resulting free-kick birthday boy Irving nodded in at the back post.
