Stalemate at Latham Park

THIS was the result neither side really wanted as hopes of making a top 10 finish in the league wilted at Latham Park.

Newtown offered free admission in an attempt to bolster their support, but were unable to lift themselves in front of a crowd of 307. They huffed and puffed for long spells, young front runner Neil Mitchell proving a lively customer down the right but any danger petered out as he failed to make the most of some promising positions.

Mitchell went close in the first half for the Mid Wales men, seeing his headed effort from an Adam Worton corner well saved by keeper Terry McCormick. Gavin Cadwallader came close to breaking the deadlock when his header, from another Worton corner from the left, scraped the bar in the second half.

Quay almost snatched victory in the latter stages when Sam McNutt rattled the bar.
