Woodwork denies Druids point

JON Rush scored a spectacular goal and hit the woodwork twice as Elements Cefn Druids' misfortune this season continued against Bala Town.

The striker latched on to the ball 30 yards out and fired into the roof of the net giving Matthew Boswell in the Bala goal no chance. But it was Bala that was quicker out of the blocks and were handed the lead with only 40 seconds on the clock.

A free-kick was played into the Druids penalty area, which Chris Mullock was unable to hold on to, allowing Evans to fire home into the roof of the net.

Druids took a while to get into the game but gradually began to find their passing range and, just before Rush's strike had seen a good passing move break down by a mis-directed through ball from Caughter. But, two minutes before the break Rush struck sweetly to restore parity.

Both sides came close to taking the lead early in the second half. Mullock made amends for his error in the first minute by making a point-blank reactionary double save in the 48th minute before, three minutes later, Rush then Pejic both hit the crossbar following a corner from the right.

Bala came close again in the 57th minute as Druids had to scramble the ball off the line and clear to safety. Druids began to start applying pressure on the visitors, but rarely troubled Boswell and, with seven minutes remaining, The Ancients were made to rue not taking advantage.

Evans threaded a through ball to substitute Neil Fisher on the edge of the penalty area and he calmly slotted past Mullock into the bottom corner of the net. Druids still came close to a second equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time when Rush's header from Michael Taylor's cross had beaten Boswell. But Druids' continued story of bad luck this season continued, when the ball came back off the foot of the post.
