Rhyl up to Third with Nomads Triumph

WELSH Premier League champions Rhyl put a week of off-the-field turmoil aside and produced a sparkling display which moved them up to third in the table.

The financially troubled title-holders went ahead in the 29th minute through a tremendous Mark Connolly free kick. It was awarded for a foul outside the box on Rob Turner by defender Andy Alston, who received a straight red card for illegally denying the Lilywhites striker a clear run on goal.

The hosts missed several opportunities to grab the all-important second goal before, in the 78th minute, George Horan out-jumped everyone to head home a Phil Doran corner.

Quay responded immediately, though, when Aaron Burns drove home from 10 yards and the same player went close to an equaliser, but Rhyl settled the issue on 86 minutes when Matthew Williams diverted in a Chris Williams shot. In injury time Matthew Williams added his second from close range.
