BILLED as a game neither side could afford to lose if their top-10 ambitions were to be maintained, honours went to Quay following a dynamic last half hour. The result delighted player-manager Mark McGregor, who said;
"We needed that to close the gap on the top 10. We gave another solid defensive display and the goals were welcome."
The hosts had only netted four times previously on home soil in five matches and five on the road in eight matches, so it is clear where the problems lay.
"I was really pleased with the application of my lads and, although we have been short on goals, I would have been more concerned had we not been creating them."
The hosts went in front in the 25th minute, Mike Hayes profiting from good work by Jamie Petrie, but Newtown soon leveled through Obi Anoruo. A sweet strike from Chris Herbert regained the lead for the hosts, leaving Stuart Scheuber to make the game safe with a superb solo effort.
