Aber beat Newtown despite late Robins' Onslaught

In front of a bumper crowd of 620, Aber Town spent most of the game ahead, then survived a late onslaught and emerged from a superb match with all three points.

The Seasiders got a dream start when Kristian James bustled his way through and hammered a left footed shot into the top corner after only 3 minutes. The first half an hour was an exciting end to end affair, with Ross Stephens and Jamie Breeze shooting wide for Newtown, and Cledan Davies and Luke Bowen going close for the home side. Rob Evans also had a shot deflected wide, and Aber went in a goal to the good.

The game settled down in the second half, but then on 57 minutes Cledan Davies got a boisterous crowd going again when his left wing cross dropped in under the bar, and Newtown goalkeeper Dave Maguire carried the ball over his own line. Newtown got back into the game when Ross Stephens quality finish from the left hand side hit the bottom corner, and they went on to dominate the final 16 minutes, with Stephens and Breeze again going close. Nicky Ward was sent off in injury time for abusing the officials, and Aber held on for a win which, for a few hours at least, moves the Black and Greens up to sixth place in the league.
