NEWI Cefn Druids showed a statement of intent this evening in their battle against the drop with an outstanding second-half display at Plaskynaston to dispose of GAP Connah's Quay 6-0.
The scores were level at half-time as neither side could make headway, but striker Jon Rush sent the Druids on their way on 48 minutes with the opening strike, his fourth of the Season. Kevin Holsgrove then doubled the advantage eight minutes later and veteran Ricky Evans made it safe on 66 minutes with the hosts third of the evening.
Defender Lee Jones then scored the fourth on 78 minutes to the delight of his namesake Manager, before Holsgrove grabbed his second with five minutes remaining. The icing on the cake came when 18-year old Youth Team product Mike Taylor came off the bench to register his first senior goal for the Ancients on a night that will be remembered for a long time by the Plaskynaston faithful.
Contrastingly, Nomads boss Steve O'Shaughnessy, who was once the Druids Manager until August 2004, will be shocked by the scoreline, but probably relieved that his side have already accumulated enough points to keep them in top flight football next Season.
