Newtown add to Porthmadog's woes

EARLY goals from Nick Ward and Neil Mitchell gave Newtown the points against strugglers Porthmadog who are still looking over their shoulder in fear of the drop.

Ward beat a sleepy Porthmadog defence in the fifth minute to net from close range and Mitchell was an effective poacher at the far post for the second on the half hour.

Robins' boss Darren Ryan praised his weakened sides win, saying, "The youngsters who came in today really stepped up to the plate. We played some fantastic stuff first half but they came at us after the break but never looked like scoring. We are now chasing 40 points which would be a good achievement."

The Latham Park club are just five points short of their objective with eight matches to play, while Porthmadog face an anxious few weeks.
