Planemakers fail to take off

AIRBUS will be left wondering how they only took a point from a game they should have won by a comfortable margin. Newtown scored with the game's first clear-cut chance after just four minutes.

Tommy Mutton had his shot blocked, but full-back Damian Daniels made no mistake in tapping home the rebound. The hosts wasted chance after chance and really lacked any cutting edge, Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones denying Gareth Sudlow and Mark Allen from consecutive corners.

Parity was eventually restored when Sudlow did find the net with a fine shot from the edge of the box. Airbus should have had their noses in front by the break with player boss Gareth Owen and Phil Molyneux both going close. The second period also belonged to Airbus with Owen going agonisingly close with a fiercely struck free-kick, sub Paul Hallows was denied by Jones and right at the death Danny Desormeaux clipped the post with the keeper beaten.
