New Saints set out to settle old scores

THE New Saints go into Christmas with a two-point lead after avenging a five-goal drubbing at the hands of the Seasiders earlier in the campaign. Jamie Wood capped a fine display by settling a scrappy encounter with the decisive strike in the 37th minute, his fifth league goal of the season. But it was Aber who started the brighter against a hesitant TNS.

Saints keeper Paul Harrison was forced to save an Aneurin Thomas free kick after Duane Courtney fouled on the edge of the box, while Geraint Passmore's header from a Sherbon corner flew narrowly wide. Wood, however, made the most of his opportunity at the other end. He latched on to Alfie Carter's through ball and beat Christian Edwards to fire into the far corner, despite a despairing dive from keeper Richard Morgan. With renewed confidence, the high-flying hosts looked more confident after the break as they upped the ante. Phil Baker and Steven Beck had long range efforts while substitute Carl Lamb almost doubled the lead but was denied by Morgan.
