Seven-Up Saints Find Killer Instinct

TNS boss Ken McKenna has been urging his side to finish has been urging his side to finish-off opponents and his super Saints responded in style with a 7-1 hammering of Caernarfon.

They even gave the Canaries their customary one-goal start at The Oval, allowing Mark Thomas to rise unmarked to head-in from a seventh minute corner, but home joy was short-lived. Keeper Vinnie Whelan's error gifted Jamie Wood and equaliser on the quarter hour, before Steven Beck took advantage of some sloppy defending to fire Saints ahead three minutes later.

The floodgates opened in the second half, Duane Courtney winning the ball down the right and providing for Michael Wilde, who crossed for Luke Holden to net from close range. Whelan flapped at another corner from Holden to enable Wood to head his second on 62 minutes and then provided the squared pass for Beck to notch his brace with a crisp 15-yarder past the hapeless keeper.

When Chris King was tripped in the box, John Leah made no mistake from the spot kick, but the Canaries should have claimed another consolation goal when John Rowley was felled by substitute Robbie Williams, only for the striker's penalty to be well saved by Paul Harrison. And Wilde rounded-off the afternoon with a close range effort after sub Carl Lamb had created the opening for Holden to cross.

But there was a late sting in the tail for TNS when Lamb was stretchered-off with a leg injury in the last minute of an otherwise excellent afternoon.
