Hicks proves his worth to Old Gold

by Phil Blanche, Western Mail

<1r>CARMARTHEN bounced back from a barren spell of one point from two matches with a stunning success over Druids, whose recent improvement ended abruptly.

It was a victory which delighted Old Gold manager Deryn Brace.

"It was a good win, and although they were reduced to 10 men, I don't think it affected the outcome," he said.

"We have a small squad here. With Gareth Wharton back at Merthyr, Curtis McDonald now playing in Poland, Nicky Palmer out with a broken leg and Nathan Cotterrall injured, we cannot afford to lose any more players."

Ancients striker Kevin Holsgrove was red-carded for a late challenge shortly after he had equalised Danny Thomas' 12th-minute opener.

But Tim Hicks' brace in a 12-minute spell either side of the break and a fourth from Richard Hughes swept Carmarthen up to third spot.
