Kris Thomas brace sinks improved Druids

<1>NEWI Cefn Druids recent good run of form came to a crashing halt at Richmond Park as Carmarthen put The Ancients through a nightmare final 20 minutes. A brace from instrumental midfielder Kris Thomas, together with a goal apiece for Sasha Walters and Paul Fowler, all in the space of 13 minutes, gave the hosts a 4-0 victory.

With the score goalless as the game entered the final quarter, the home side turned the game on its head. In the 70th minute an attack down the left saw the ball come to Thomas and he fired past Carl Edwards from 18 yards top open the scoring. With ten minutes to go, the Ancients were then hit by a two minute double-salvo. Nathan Cotterall broke down the left, allowing Thomas to cross in to an unmarked Walters, who found the net with a spectacular volley shot over his shoulder.

<2r>Then, just a minute later, Kaid Mohamed's powerful shot was only parried by Edwards, but it fell to Walters on the right side of the penalty area, who pulled the ball back to Thomas to fire home from ten yards out. Before Druids could recover from the double whammy, Carmarthen got a fourth in the 83rd minute. Thomas pulled the ball back to Fowler on the edge of the box, and his shot bobbled in front of Edwards and beyond his dive to go in off the inside of the post.

With four minutes remaining Druids were reduced to ten men as Mike Heverin was sent off by referee Paul Thomas. Druids did, though, have a golden chance for a consolation late on when Osian Jones was adjudged to have been fouled inside the box. Steve Watkin stepped up to take the kick, but it was easily saved by Neil Thomas in the home goal to compound Druids' misery.
