Rhyl's Hunt shoots down the Nomads

<1>The Lilywhites maintained a two-point lead over nearest challengers TNS by handing the Nomads only a second defeat in eleven league matches infront of over 900 people at Belle Vue. It was a case of the end justifying the means as this scrappy festive derby lacked sparkle. But Rhyl ran out worthy winners as the Nomads failed to muster a serious threat to the home goal after they had drawn level.

Mark Powell produced a Christmas cracker after ten minutes when he cut inside his marker and his shot took a wicked deflection before beating former Rhyl keeper Paul Smith. The visitors snatched a surprise equaliser from a corner when Chris Sergeant prodded the ball home following a melee in the home box.

Lee Hunt (pictured) pounced to net the Rhyl winner eleven minutes from time after a David Cameron assist from a corner fell to Hunt, who made no mistake from close range to seal the maximum points in front of the ecstatic home faithful.
