Connolly Hat-trick gives Rhyl Six Appeal

<1>Midfielder Mark Connolly grabbed a maiden Principality Welsh Premier League hat-trick in the first half to sink the hapless Robins for six.

The Lilywhites were in overdrive from the first whistle and they raced to two goal lead after just five minutes, Alex Hay nodded the opener before Connolly also scored with his head at the far post just moments later.

Hay then took advantage of a poor back-pass from substitute Martin Giles to score his second as he fired his shot in from an acute angle.

Worse was to come for Roger Preece's men as Connolly then struck twice to seal his hat-trick, before the break as Rhyl went in at the interval already five up. His middle goal was the pick of the lot as his powerful piledriver beat the home 'keeper Jon Rowley from thirty yards out.

In fairness to Newtown, the floodgates could have opened more in the second half, but they conceded just the once, when Lilywhites substitute Lee Hunt, who has been out for two months, marked his return to fitness with a goal as he glanced home the sixth.
